DesignBoard Cladding Gives Show Stopping Result – Garden Designer Martyn Wilson used DesignBoard Cladding to wonderful effect in 2018
Using DesignBoard Composite Decking as wall cladding can transform walls to create interesting focal points, as Martyn Wilson impressively demonstrated in his garden ‘A Breath of Fresh Air’.
Martyn’s garden, ably built by Keyscape Landscape Design and Construction, won gold at BBC Gardeners’ World Live 2018. The design brief was to create a garden in the center of Birmingham, focusing on a young couple in the creative industries. The property was a typical Victorian terraced house with a narrow garden, bordered closely by neighbouring gardens.
Martyn explained that it was the brief that led him to using DesignBoard. “I wanted to use a contemporary material that would appeal to a younger generation.” Martyn demonstrated that using DesignBoard composite decking in such an innovative way will create show stopping results. Composite decking is ideal for contemporary garden designs due to its modern aesthetics. At the time the garden was built, laying DesignBoard Composite Decking vertically was a also relatively new concept, which added to Martyn’s forward-thinking vision.
Martyn used DesignBoard Charcoal vertically, placing the decking planks horizontally, in order to create a border fence. The use of the decking as fencing established a sense of privacy within the space. With privacy came a place in which to relax and get ‘a bit of fresh air’ after a busy day for his young couple. Hedging also helped to define the boundaries of the garden and added to the sense of seclusion. Trees add to the intimacy of the garden and assisted in creating a peaceful private oasis in which to escape the world.
Charcoal DesignBoard provided the background that really allowed the foliage to shine through and give the sculpture a starring role. The planting is full of cool contemporary tones of green and white. This calm planting is then punctuated with touches of orange. Charcoal DesignBoard Composite Decking was used in order to accentuate the greens and oranges in the garden design. The contrast of the bright colours with the dark charred tones of the decking is an intentional bold statement.
Unobtrusive and long-lasting
Not only is DesignBoard composite decking ideal for creating impressive results but also practical. DesignBoard decking was used as a method of sound mitigating. Inner city gardens are prone to sound pollution. The composite material was used in the hope that it would absorb some of this noise to further assist in creating a tranquil setting. Composite decking is also unobtrusive and long-lasting when used as fencing; ideal for use as a permanent feature in a garden. Additionally, Martyn noted that the installation team had no trouble with implementing the decking boards. “The boards went on easily with the clipping system”, says Martyn, making DesignBoard Composite Decking a great choice for quick and easy installation.
Martyn has demonstrated just how versatile and multifunctional DesignBoard Composite Decking is. As well as showcasing just how incredible it can look in a garden and painlessly accomplishing his brief. Why not take inspiration from Martyn’s design, and incorporate DesignBoard into your next scheme – vertically!
